engage actively along with SDNP-India, operating under the MoEF
(Ministry of Environment and Forests), Government of India, for
achieving sustainable development in India. The SDNP project is
funded by the UNDP (United Nations
Development Programme) and the IDRC
(International Development Research Centre). This site is
developed and maintained by TERI

Pollution Control Board
Subject Area – Control of Pollution (Water, Air & Noise)
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), is statutory
organisation, was constituted in September, 1974 under the Water
(Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. Further, CPCB was
entrusted with the powers and functions under the Air (Prevention
and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. It serves as a field formation
and also provides technical services to the Ministry of Environment
and Forests of the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act,
1986.
Botanical
Survey of India
Subject Area – Floral Diversity
ENVIS CENTRE on Floral
diversity in the Botanical Survey of India, Kolkata funded by the
Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India is
engaged in meeting the task of disseminating information on Floral
diversity including the Rare and Endangered plants to the wide range
of users through the vast infrastructural facilities and experienced
Scientists of the Botanical Survey of India.
The main objectives of the centre are to collect and store data on
various Floral diversities from different eco-regions of India.
Economic and Medicinal plants, plants that are used largely for
sustainable development, cottage industries, food products and
plants that are in the categories of rare and endangered. All these
processed information are disseminated as much as possible through
an appropriate database to the different users nationally and
internationally and to create an interlink by computer network.

The Environmental Information System
(ENVIS Centre) at ITRC is a network partner with the
focal point at the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government
of India, New Delhi. Established in January 1984, this Centre, one
of the earliest, functions in the area of toxic chemicals. In
association with MoEnF and other ENVIS centers it
builds up a repository of information and its dissemination.

The ENVIS centre estabilished at the Centre for Environmental
Studies, Anna University Chennai 600 025 in the year 1984, is one of
the 25 centres in the country designed to provide information
service in the areas of Biodegradation of waste and Environmental
Impact Assessment . It aims at collection, storage, retrieval
and wide dissemination of information on the above said areas for
the use of policy planners , decision makers, research workers,
scientists, administrators and the public.
