European Union’s Telematics Application Programme

Within the European Union’s Telematics Application Programme (1994-1998), several  ‘IST’** technologies have been researched, developed, and implemented in the environmental field. These include:

  • Air and water quality management systems
  • Public environmental information systems
  • Emergency warning tools
  • Decision support systems
  • And application supporting data compatibility

**IST: Information Society Technologies, tools that support the management and transfer of information and its access and availability to a wide range of users, while helping contribute to informed decision-making.

  • CroatiaTNMN
  • A database system for collecting, storing and retrieving the Croatian TNMN data for water quality/quantity. Harmonisation of data from different regions of Croatia has been accomplished. Digital map of the Danube River Basin is available at the Web pages for TNMN network as well as part of the database information.
  • DANIS
  • The Danube Information System on human resources provides access to all available primary information systems and databases developed for the needs of the Danube region.
  • Danube Accident Emergency Warning System
  • A system based on international co-operation in the Danube River Basin to provide early information on transboundary river pollution incidents towards the responsible authorities of the countries affected by the impacts of such pollution events
  • The Waternet project
  • Use of Telematics in Water Quality Management and Monitoring in Hungary
